New Year's Eve and public holidays: we drive while the town celebrates

On New Year's Eve everyone wants to get home at the same time; at Christmas barely anything else is running. We are out on the road regardless, with more than 40 cars, all night long. Here is how to make sure of your ride and which tariff applies.

We keep driving, even while everyone else celebrates

Our dispatch office does not do holidays. Christmas Eve, New Year's morning, Easter Monday: there are always cars on the road and always people answering the phone on 04321 22200. That is how we have run things since 2018.

What changes on public holidays is not our service but the demand. And you can prepare for that well if you know two things: how the tariff works on holidays and when best to order your taxi.

Which tariff applies on public holidays

On Sundays and public holidays the taximeter charges the night tariff all day: the base fare is then €5.60 instead of €4.60. The price per kilometre stays the same, €2.30 up to six kilometres and €1.90 after that.

New Year's Eve itself, by the way, is not a public holiday. On 31 December the normal day tariff applies during the day, the night tariff from 10 pm, and from midnight it is New Year's Day, when the night tariff applies all day.

There is no separate New Year's Eve surcharge with us. Within Neumünster the official city tariff applies, on that night as on any other, and no driver may deviate from it.

New Year's Eve: how to make sure you get home

The busiest hour of the entire year comes just after midnight, when a great many people want to get home at once. If you ring spontaneously at half past twelve, you will need patience that night; we say that honestly.

The safe route is a pre-booking. Book your outward and return rides firmly before the holidays, with date, time and exact address. We take pre-bookings up to 90 days in advance, and a firmly booked car turns up even on New Year's Eve.

Stay reachable on the number you gave during the night and wait where you said you would be. The driver will contact you as soon as he arrives.

Christmas, Easter, Ascension Day: quieter, but not empty

On the classic holidays the town is quiet, but the journeys remain: visiting family, picking someone up from the station, the shift at the hospital. While much of the town pauses, we keep driving at our normal rhythm.

The airport does not take holidays off either. For journeys outside Neumünster, to Hamburg Airport for instance, the fixed price from the booking form applies unchanged on public holidays, payable online too with PayPal, card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Out with the whole party

Six of you in two taxis after the party? No need. A large taxi takes up to eight passengers; everyone gets in together and out together.

Within Neumünster the tariff only adds a surcharge when more than four passengers ride along: €7.00 for five to six, €10.00 for seven to eight passengers. Book the large taxi especially early for New Year's Eve; the big cars are the first to be fully booked that night.

Frequently asked questions

Do you drive on New Year's Eve?

Yes, all night, with every available car. Just after midnight demand is enormous though. If you want to be sure of getting home, book the car firmly in advance with date, time and address.

Is there a special surcharge on New Year's Eve?

No. The official tariff of the city of Neumünster applies: on 31 December the day tariff during the day, from 10 pm the night tariff with a €5.60 base fare, and on New Year's Day the night tariff all day.

When should I book my New Year's Eve taxi?

As early as possible, ideally several days ahead. We take pre-bookings up to 90 days in advance. Book the outward and return rides together, then both are firmly scheduled.

What applies at Christmas and on other public holidays?

We drive around the clock as always. On public holidays the taximeter charges the night tariff all day, with a base fare of €5.60. Fixed prices for destinations outside Neumünster stay unchanged.

Can eight of us get a taxi after the party?

Yes, with the large taxi for up to eight passengers. Within Neumünster the tariff surcharge then applies: €7.00 from five and €10.00 from seven passengers. For New Year's Eve, please book especially early.
