How the meter calculates

Every ride within Neumünster starts with the base fare: €4.60 during the day, €5.60 at night and on Sundays and public holidays. On top of that come €2.30 per kilometre for the first six kilometres; from the seventh kilometre it is €1.90.

Getting the car to you costs nothing, the meter only starts when you get in. If the car is held up on the way or waits for you, the meter counts waiting time at €36 per hour, from the first minute.

For a normal ride there are no other items. Surcharges only apply when more than four passengers ride along or bulky goods such as a bicycle come too.

Example 1: the short ride, 3 kilometres

Three kilometres is the classic ride in town, say from the station to one of the nearer districts. The maths: a €4.60 base fare plus three times €2.30, together around €11.50.

At night the same ride costs around €12.50, because only the base fare rises. The price per kilometre stays the same day and night.

Example 2: the medium ride, 6 kilometres

Six kilometres is roughly a ride right across town, say from the southern edge up to Einfeld. The maths: €4.60 plus six times €2.30, so €4.60 plus €13.80, together around €18.40.

Up to this point every kilometre counts at €2.30. From exactly the seventh kilometre it gets cheaper, as the next example shows.

Example 3: the long ride, 10 kilometres

For ten kilometres the meter calculates in two steps: the first six kilometres cost €13.80, the four after that €1.90 each, so €7.60. With the €4.60 base fare the ride comes to around €26.00.

Per kilometre, long rides are noticeably cheaper than short ones. At night the same route costs around €27.00, once again exactly one euro more.

Example 4: with waiting time, and why the form is more accurate

Waiting time costs €36 per hour, which is 60 cents per minute, from the first minute. The short ride from example 1 with ten minutes' wait outside the chemist's comes to around €11.50 plus €6.00, together around €17.50.

All the examples are deliberately worked out with 'around', because in the end the meter decides: the actual route, every minute at a red light. The booking form calculates your route along the real roads and is therefore more accurate than any rule of thumb.

For destinations outside Neumünster none of this applies. There we drive at a fixed price, set before you book; you will find all routes on the fixed prices page.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi for 5 kilometres in Neumünster?

During the day around €16.10: a €4.60 base fare plus five times €2.30. At night and on Sundays and public holidays exactly one euro comes on top, because the base fare is then €5.60.

Why does the final price differ from the example?

The examples work with a round number of kilometres in a straight line. The meter counts the distance actually driven plus waiting time, at traffic lights for instance. The booking form calculates along the real roads and therefore comes closer to the final amount.

Is the pick-up included in the price?

Yes. The car's journey to you costs nothing, even with an advance booking. The meter only starts when you get in.

What does waiting time cost in a taxi?

€36 per hour, from the first minute. That is 60 cents per minute. For longer appointments two separate rides are therefore usually cheaper than a waiting car.

Do these examples also apply to rides to Hamburg or Kiel?

No. Beyond Neumünster we drive at a fixed price, which you see in the form before you book. It applies regardless of traffic and the time of day.
