From the terminal to the quayside

It is 89.9 kilometres from Hamburg Airport to Schwedenkai Kiel, along the A7 and the B404. With a clear road that comes to about 61 minutes. We meet you in the arrivals hall, carry your bags to the car and drive you to the berth itself.

The price of 150.00 € is for the whole car, not per person. Nothing is added to it afterwards, not at night, not at the weekend, not on a public holiday and not for suitcases. You see the amount before you book and it stays that way.

From the Schwedenkai to Gothenburg

Stena Line sails to Gothenburg seven times a week. The Schwedenkai sits in the middle of Kiel, straight across the water from the shopping streets, and of the four quays it is the quickest to reach: 89.9 kilometres and about 61 minutes from Hamburg Airport.

Travelling without a car, this is the berth you get nearest to. The railway station is only a few hundred metres away, true enough, but coming up from Hamburg by rail you have already changed twice with your cases before you get that far.

The price is the same as at the other Kiel berths even though the run is shorter. We charge by the car and not by the kilometre, and one round number reads better than four amounts that sit a couple of euros apart.

Which quay is your ship using?

Kiel does not have one port but five berths, and they lie as much as seven kilometres apart. Get out at the Ostseekai when you need the Norwegenkai and you are standing in the wrong place with your luggage. Tell us the shipping line when you book and we drive to the right one.

Coach or taxi? The honest sum

Buses run on this route as well, and we are not going to talk them down. If you travel on your own with hand luggage and have time to spare, the bus is cheaper. The difference lies elsewhere.

If your flight is late

We follow your flight number. The driver comes for the time you actually land, not the time on the schedule. 60 minutes of waiting after landing are part of the fixed price, so you can take the baggage hall at your own pace.

If your flight lands a good deal later, we still drive. A bus or train ticket is worthless by then; a booked car is not. When there is a ship leaving the same day, that is the difference between sailing and staying behind.

You book with the driver, not with a middleman

We are a licensed taxi firm in Neumünster, with our own cars and a German phone number that somebody answers. So you book with the company that does the driving.

The big transfer portals sit in between. With one of them you only get a price once you have left your contact details and drivers have bid for your job; the form itself calls that "prices on a tender basis". When your ship leaves at a set hour, waiting for a bid is the last thing you need.

With us the amount is settled before you book and does not move afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the drive from Hamburg Airport to Schwedenkai Kiel take?

About 61 minutes for 89.9 kilometres on the A7 and the B404. A queue at the Elbe tunnel or the rush hour can make it longer. We allow for that and keep an eye on your landing time.

What does a taxi from Hamburg Airport to Schwedenkai Kiel cost?

150.00 € as a fixed price for the whole car with up to four people, 165.00 € for the minibus with up to eight. The price is the same in both directions and covers luggage, waiting time and every surcharge.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

We follow your flight number and come for the time you actually land, not the time on the schedule. 60 minutes of waiting after landing are part of the fixed price. Your booking does not lapse, unlike a bus or train ticket.

How many people and cases fit in the car?

A saloon car takes four people with four cases. With big holiday luggage that gets tight: enter five people on the booking form and you get a minibus for 165.00 €.

Can I pay in the taxi?

Yes. You can pay online with PayPal, card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or in cash or by card with the driver. The price is the same either way.

Can I cancel free of charge?

Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before the journey.

Do you drive at night and at the weekend?

Around the clock, seven days a week, for the same fixed price. There are no night, weekend or holiday surcharges on this route.

Why does the Schwedenkai cost the same as the Ostseekai when it is nearer?

Because there is barely a kilometre and a half between the two. Five different prices for five berths that sit almost on top of each other makes the price list unreadable, and you would have to look up which quay your ship uses before you knew what to pay. We charge one amount for the whole port.

How often does Stena Line sail to Gothenburg?

Seven sailings a week. Your ticket says when check-in closes.
