Straight up the A7, without the detour through the city
Kaltenkirchen has grown strongly over recent decades, as a place to live right on the A7 and with business parks along the motorway. The railway towards Hamburg-Eidelstedt carries the commuters, but from the airport it is little help: the terminals sit on a different line, and the detour with its changes quickly costs more than an hour with luggage.
We drive direct: onto the A7 and off again at Kaltenkirchen, 29.5 kilometres in about 28 minutes. The Elbe tunnel plays no part on this route, which makes the driving time easy to plan for.
