How early can you book a flight?
If you are coming off a ship, most lines start letting passengers ashore around seven in the morning and everyone is off by nine. With about 64 minutes on the road plus some slack for the Elbe tunnel, a flight from late morning onwards is comfortable.
Reckon on being at the terminal two hours before departure and you get through without rushing. We know the road, and when you book we tell you which pick-up time suits your flight.
Book before you travel if you can. On arrival day everybody is on the quay at once, and a car that is already reserved is the difference between driving off and waiting.
Sailing from Kiel: when do you need to be there?
Most cruise lines want you on board two to three hours before the ship leaves. For a ship that sails at five in the afternoon that means leaving the airport around one, and even then there is room for a queue at the Elbe tunnel.
At the Ostseekai we drive right up to the baggage drop, not to the car park in front of it. With four big cruise cases a saloon car gets tight, so enter five passengers on the booking form and a minibus comes instead.
On summer Saturdays several ships lie here at the same time. The quay is busy then and the approach road is slower. We allow for that, and it makes no difference to what you pay.
